My 12-year-old went crazy for The Super Mario Bros. Movie! I just received it yesterday, and he’s already watched it three times. He says it’s the best movie he’s seen in a long time. I have always loved Super Mario Bros. and this movie is no different. I love sitting and watching it with my son, and I love that my spouse will sit with us too. The Super Mario Bros. How Geometry and Chocolate Became a Great Couple Archimedes Chocolates is an artistic endeavor involving as much organic dark chocolate as it does geometry. In need of a healthy distraction following a major life event, the founder’s appreciation for the beauty and wisdom of nature led him to study the mathematical principles that serve as the basis of all physical forms in nature. “Pi and square roots. The golden ratio. Irrational numbers and repeating fractals. These all formed the basis of my chocolate brand,” said Jeff Beaudoin, owner of Archimedes Chocolates. “Here at Archimedes Chocolates, we’re literally blending organic dark chocolate with art and science.” The Geometry Behind the Chocolate Beaudoin began by learning how to work with a compass. “Basic stuff: circles and squares and triangles and polygons. I’d like to share some common sense warnings that may prevent a holiday disaster. It would be wise to take a few minutes to assess these hidden dangers before getting all get caught up in the seasonal festivities. The first obvious danger to our pets is the Christmas tree. Aside from the inherent fire risk with real trees, there is also the possibility of pets injuring themselves on the needles and ornaments. Eyes can be accidentally poked or scratched. Delicate ornaments can be broken, resulting in sharp pieces of glass or plastic that can cause cuts or potentially be eaten. Some people hang candy or popcorn on their trees. These confections can be eaten by pets, and the plastic wrappers and strings can be swallowed and cause intestinal damage. Cats like to play with shiny objects, and tinsel is notoriously dangerous. If swallowed in large quantities it can cause a blockage. Extension cords are always a hazard. Pets can be accidentally tangled up in the wires, thus potentially pulling over the tree, or…
AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety research shows alarming trend More people are now killed on the nation’s city streets than on rural roads and speeding is one of the most critical factors. Between 2010 and 2019, fatalities in urban areas surged 34% while those in rural areas fell 10%. Urban fatalities first surpassed those in rural areas in 2016, and 19,595 people were killed in urban locations compared to 16,340 in the countryside in 2019. “Urban streets in metropolitan areas can be more dangerous because there are higher numbers of motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists traveling those roadways,” said Theresa Podguski, director of legislative affairs, AAA East Central. “Speeding makes those busy streets even more treacherous, so everyone needs to be careful, pay attention to road conditions and follow traffic laws.” According to Federal Highway Administration statistics, more than 70% of the four million miles of public-access roads in the United States are rural. Yet while speeding occurs on all roads, urban roads and streets account for a disproportionate number of speeding-related fatalities.
