 Jarlsberg® Cheese famous worldwide for its nutty, mild and sweet flavor launches a global recipe global contest starring two best friends: burgers and cheese.  Cheese fans and all foodies can enter the Jarlsberg Sizzling Summer Burger contest from July 2nd to August 27th at https://www.facebook.com/jarlsberg. Entrants will have the chance to win exclusive Jarlsberg® Grill Kits every week and the grand prize is a Big Green Egg Grill, so that winners can re-create their favorite Jarlsberg® burgers, just in time for Labor Day weekend!

The program also offers some great new burger ideas from Celebrity Chef George Duran.  Duran, the Venezuelan born American chef, is well known for hosting cooking programs on TLC and Food Network and his appearances on numerous TV shows. He has created four distinctly different Jarlsberg® burger recipes, including one vegetarian burger and one burger with grilled pineapple slices in place of burger buns.

Each of Chef Duran’s four burger recipes offer a summer story and their own film: The Marvelous Meltdown (Jarlsberg® Fondue Burger), Melted Maui Madness (Pineapple Bun Jarlsberg® Burger), The Viva La Quinoa (Quinoa and Red Lentil with Jarlsberg®), and The Brooklyn Bacon Bonanza (Bacon Burger Stuffed with Jarlsberg®). The burgers are placed in different settings, and the ambience is quintessentially New York: three of the four burger shorts are filmed in a Williamsburg brownstone, and the fourth on a rooftop in Queens with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop.

Recipes:

The Marvelous Melt-down – Fondue Burger                              

 

For the burgers:

1 tbsp. panko-style breadcrumbs

1 tbsp. heavy cream

1 1/2 lb minced beef

2 garlic cloves, minced

1 tbsp. salt

1/4 tbsp. black pepper

Butter

4 sesame burger buns

Lettuce

Chopped scallions

Red pepper flakes (optional)

 

For the Jarlsberg® fondue sauce:

2 tbsp. butter

2 tbsp flour

1 C. of whole milk

1 1/2 C. of grated Jarlsberg® cheese

 

Method:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the breadcrumbs and heavy cream until absorbed ( about 3 – 4 minutes)
  2. In a large bowl, mix the beef with the garlic and breadcrumb mixture until combined. Season with salt and pepper and form 4 large burgers. Make a large indentation in the middle of each burger and preheat your grill.
  3. In the meantime, make the Jarlsberg® cheese fondue sauce by melting the butter in a small saucepan and whisking in the flour. Whisk over a medium heat until browned. Slowly whisk in the milk and allow to thicken (about 3 – 4 minutes). Add the grated Jarlsberg® and whisk until smooth. Keep some cheese aside.
  4. Grill each burger as desired, spread butter inside the buns and toast lightly. Arrange lettuce on the bottom half of the bun, followed by the burger. Then pour fondue sauce on top of the burger. Add the other half of the bun and pour more fondue sauce over the top.
  5. Garnish with scallions and red pepper flakes.

Makes 4 burgers

 

Melted Maui Madness

Ingredients:

1 1/2 lb. minced beef

1 tbsp. tomato paste

1 tbsp. teriyaki sauce

1 tbsp. kosher salt

Non-stick spray

4 thick pineapple rings

4 red bell pepper rings

4 slices Jarlsberg® cheese

Thinly-sliced red onions

8 slices of cooked bacon (optional)

Lettuce and tomato

 

Method:

  1. Pre-heat your grill.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix the beef with the tomato paste, teriyaki sauce and salt.

Form 4 equal-sized burger patties.

  1. Spray the grill with non-stick spray and grill the pineapple rings evenly on both sides.

Set aside and grill the peppers and burgers as desired. Top the burgers with Jarlsberg® cheese and allow to melt slightly.

  1. Assemble your burgers using the pineapple rings in place of a bun and top with the

burger, cheese, peppers, red onion slices, bacon, lettuce and tomato slices.

Makes 4 burgers

PERFECT FOR THE WARM SUMMER EVENINGS

Depending on what ingredients you use, the Soufflé can be served both as a savory main dish or sweetened as a dessert. Here we’ve combined this French classic with a tangy lemon vinaigrette and a fresh tomato and watermelon salad which makes it perfect as an appetizer or main course, preferably enjoyed outdoors on one of those warm summer evenings.

Ingredients

JARLSBERG® CHEESE SOUFFLÉ

1 cup milk

2 dried bay leaves

2 shallots, finely chopped

4 small ramekins

Baking paper

1 cup butter

4 tbsp. plain flour

salt

1 pinch cayenne pepper

1 tbsp. Dijon mustard

1 cup grated Jarlsberg® cheese

5 eggs with the whites and yolks separated

Jarlsberg® cheese for the topping

WATER MELON SALAD

watermelon

1 cup tomatoes

1 cup hazelnuts, roasted

1 lime

1 orange

2 cups olive oil

MAKES 4 PORTIONS

 

TO MAKE THE SOUFFLE

Pre-heat the oven to 400 °F. In a pan, heat the milk, bay leaves and shallot until boiling. Remove the pan from the heat and let the contents rest for 20 minutes. Grease the inside of the ovenproof ramekins.

The soufflé mixture will rise quite high, so don’t overfill the ramekins. Melt the butter in a pan and stir in the flour.

Cook, stirring, for 1 min.

Strain the rested milk mixture, and gradually whisk it into the butter and flour mixture.

Cook over a low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.

Remove from the heat. Stir in mustard, salt, cayenne pepper and grated Jarlsberg® cheese. Then stir the egg yolks into the mixture. Whisk the egg whites until stiff and gently fold them into the mixture, a little at a time. Divide the mixture between the greased ramekins.

Sprinkle a little extra Jarlsberg® cheese on top, if desired. Bake on the bottom shelf of the oven for 20-25 minutes until the soufflés are golden and well risen. They should be slightly soft in the middle. Slice the tomatoes and melon.

Make the vinaigrette by whisking the juice of the lime and the orange together with the oil and mixing well. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve the soufflés immediately after they are taken out of the oven.

Serve with the tomato and watermelon salad garnished with roasted hazelnuts and with the vinaigrette.

I love Jarlsberg Cheese.  It’s got a fantastic taste, and is so nutritious.   I discovered it a while back, in the front of our local Walmart.  It’s in the cooler, by the deli.  I’ve loved it ever since, and buy it at least once a month.  My 6 year old, Jacob, loves it too.  He eats more of it than I do.

Spicy Tater Tot Breakfast Muffins

Ingredients:

36 frozen tater tots
2 cups Jarlsberg® cheese, grated and separated
8 Large eggs
2 Jalapeño peppers, seeds and veins removed and chopped finely
½ red pepper, chopped finely
2 tbsp. heavy cream
½ tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. ground pepper
Finely chopped parsley, for garnish

Non-stick spray
12 cup muffin tin pan

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425° F and spray 12 cup muffin tin with non-stick spray.

Place 3 tater tots into each muffin tin and bake for 10 minutes. Remove carefully and use a small spoon or fork to gently press down to form the base and sides of each tater tot muffin.

Divide 1 cup of Jarlsberg® cheese throughout the tater tots and place back in the oven for 10 more minutes.

In the meantime beat the eggs in a large bowl and combine the jalapeño, red peppers, heavy cream, salt and pepper. Once the tater tot muffins are done, carefully divide egg mixture into each tater tot cup. Top evenly with remaining cup of grated Jarlsberg® and place back into the oven for 10 minutes.

Remove each muffin and allow to cool for 5 minutes on a cooling rack before garnishing with parsley and serving.

Makes 1 dozen muffins.

 

*Note: This recipe can be made non-spicy by replacing the jalapeño with the same amount of green bell peppers. (This would be the way to go for me).

Jarlsberg®products are Delicious

We love Jarlsberg products.  My son, age 6, ate the cheese until there was no more.  My 20 year old, daughter, ate the crackers.  I tried both, and adored them.  I will definitely be doing more business with Jarlsberg.  Since we love the products, they will be perfect to put out for our Christmas gathering.

The Cheese Snacks are so yummy.  We love them the most.  My son, and daughter, take them in their lunch.  I love the chunk of cheese, so much.  It’s my favorite variety of cheese.

Everyone has a story, and here’s part of their story:
